Warm jar applesauce recipe. My grandmother used to make this. I can’t find a recipe anywhere- help??
Okay, my grandmother was a great cook. She had a signature mix of Mexican ( her culture) and Southern comfort food ( her mother-in-law from Kentucky taught her). I mean, we had some AMAZING meals. Anyway, one of the desserts I remember her making was a simple one. If I had to guess, I’d say it used jar applesauce, cinnamon, raisins, vanilla, brown sugar and maybe butter. I’m sure I could play around until it SEEMED right, but I’d love to have an actual recipe. Does anyone have anything similar to this? I tried googling the ingredients but came up with thousands of recipes for applesauce cake and cookies. Frustrating. I even came up empty on recipe sites. It sounds like a simple recipe, but it tasted wonderful. I’d really love to make it for my family. So… anyone?
She probably accidently developed it when her pantry was nearly bare! I do things like that a lot.
Try this and see if it works for you:
quart jar of apple sauce in microwave bowl
half package raisins
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoons cloves
1 cup brown sugar
cook this about 5 to 10 minutes stirring about every 2 minutes to make sure you aren’t burning it. When thick and raisins are all plumped up, stir in 1/4 cup butter and 2 teaspoons vanilla.
Let cool to warm and serve with biscuits and butter or sopaipillas.
My mother always put a half cup red hots in a quart jar of apple sauce along with a cup of brown sugar and the spices. She brought this to a boil in sauce pan over medium heat. Stirring til the redhots were all melted. (she was allergic to raisins so never used them).
we ate this with sopaipillas or white cake or even sometimes gingerbread.
