I think that American fans are just different in the fact that they are more like armchair supporters. The reason i say that is because in England people go to home games and away games. Thousands of people will even fly to Spain, Germany or Russia to watch their team play. Please correct me if i’m wrong but i don’t hear of thousands of people flying up from L.A. to watch a game in Toronto.
I think that there is a difference between a fan and a supporter.
I do understand what you are talking about when it comes to supporting your country. It makes no sense for a person born and raised in America supporting Brazil or Italy even if their great grandfather was an Italian or a Brazilian.
