Is swimwear still allowed as casual wear in European coastal (beach) towns?
When I was stationed in Europe in the mid-80′s I visited the island of Rhodes, Greece and Costa Brava, Spain. It was not uncommon to see the European tourist walking around the shops and outdoor bistros wearing nothing more than their swimwear (which was “speedo” and bikinis). For more recent travelers is this practice still common?
Going around in nothing more than a bikini for shopping and socialising in Europe’s coastal areas is accepted and fairly common. There has been a huge increase in tourists from the UK going to the likes of Spain and Greece and flaunting the high street style fashions there.
When I’m abroad I usually would wear a pair of denim minis or the like that feels more suitable for off-beach activities however that’s just my preference.
